BEHIND THE SCENES INTERVIEWS
During our recent Look Again Collection shoot, we’ve managed to have a quick chat with both Grace, our gorgeous model and Jemma, our lovely make-up artist and ask them a few fun general fashion questions.
Look Again: Hi Grace, thanks for sitting and having a chat between shots with us! First things first – what is your favourite piece from the Spring/Summer Collection?
Grace: Hi, no worries! My favourite piece has to be the chiffon maxi dress with choker neckline.
LA: One of our favourites too, and you look incredible in it. How would you describe your more everyday style?
G: I like to wear quite androgynous clothes, with a fun twist. So, I might wear an oversized shirt with some funky flatforms – it’s quite casual really but tailored at the same time
LA: What do you feel the most confident wearing?
G: I feel really confident, funnily enough, in an oversized coat! It might sound like a weird thing to say but I feel like if you put on a really nice tailored coat you instantly look cool without having to try too hard.
LA: Do you stick to any fashion rules?
G: Not general rules but for myself yes, 100%. I don’t wear certain cooler colours like really light pastel blues and greens because I don’t think they suit my olive skin tone, so I tend not to wear them. I also tend to stick to the rule that if I’ve got something tight on my bottom half I’ll wear something more loose on top and vice-versa – I just really like the contrast!
LA: Ooh yes, that’s a great tip. What is your current fashion obsession – are there any certain pieces or styles that you’re wearing a lot at the moment?
G: Yes, oh my gosh! At the moment I am obsessed with a statement blouse – something puffy, or with exaggerated sleeves or wrap-around. I love that look of creating interesting angles.
LA: Great answer! Is there anything that you can’t resist buying – anything that you collect?
G: Well like I said before, I love a coat so coats are my thing.
LA: How many do you think you have?
G: I have probably about 25 coats! (cue gasps) Yeah, I have a wardrobe just for coats – it’s that bad!
LA: Amazing! Last but not least, who is your ultimate style icon?
G: Ooh this is so hard! …Okay, Solange Knowles – I love Solange!
Look Again: So, we’ve manage to grab Jemma for 5 minutes whilst she’s in the middle of doing the first make-up look for today’s shoot – and this look is to go with our Midsummer Dream trend. Firstly Jemma, could you just talk us through the look you are creating here to go with these romantic, dreamy clothes?
Jemma: Yep, so we’re going for a lovely Spring look. I’m going very light on the eyes using rosy toned eye shadow and just a bit of soft brown pencil on the outside corner with fresh skin, peachy blush and a bit of pinky-nude gloss on the lips.
LA: Lovely! Do you have any top tips for achieving this lovely glowy complexion?
J: First things first – start with good skincare! Moisturising is essential, good skin is all in the prep – you can use a primer if you want but personally I think a good moisturiser is enough. Then you just need a nice, non-mattifying foundation and really buff it into the skin to get a natural, fresh finish.
LA: What make-up item do you have in your handbag at all times?
J: Mascara! Always mascara.
LA: What make-up look always makes you feel personally the best?
J: For me personally I always have an eyeliner flick and volumising mascara to make my eyes look more awake – I tend to really focus on my eyes.
LA: Speaking of a cat-eye flick, I know that’s something a lot of people struggle with – so what is your method?
J: This is hard to describe! My favourite thing to use is a gel eye liner, then just using that follow the natural shape of the eye sticking close to the lashes, then at the outer corner lifting up – you always want to lift up so you don’t create the effect of dragging the eyes down.
LA: Lastly, what advice would you give to anyone who wants to try something new with make-up but is maybe stuck in a bit of a rut?
J: I would say firstly don’t be afraid to experiment! It might sound scary to some people but a great way to do this is going and asking advice at a beauty counter – they are really good for recommending things that you would never have considered yourself. They don’t know you as a person or know what you usually wear, they just have your face to work with and can see straightaway what might look good. I actually used to work on a beauty counter and I would recommend things and so often people would say ‘I never would have even looked at that but actually it really works’ – so yeah, just don’t be afraid to try something different because you’ll probably surprise yourself!
